from to

The seminar focused on specific aspects of the issues addressed in the lecture, either by inviting and discussing with specialists, or by presenting archaeological excavations at foreign universities.

The professor presented his current archaeological research in two seminars at Oxford University under the titles " Telo Martius portus and its water-mill " and " Water-mills in Gallia Narbonensis " and in two seminars at the University of Naples Federico II " Mulini ad acqua in Italia : gli scavi di Saepinum " and " Scavi di mulini ad acqua in Francia ".

In Paris, the seminar on May 11 2012 was devoted to the dissemination of various water-lifting machines based on the most recent archaeological discoveries, thanks to a presentation by Professor Andrew Wilson of Oxford University.

The seminar on June1 2012 focused on the technical study of the power of ancient mills, thanks to a presentation by engineer and technical historian Robert Spain, and on the types of millstones used in the hydraulic mills of northeastern France, presented by Luc Jaccottey, archaeologist at the Institut national des recherches archéologiques préventives (INRAP).

In the seminar on June 22 2012, we addressed the use of hydraulic power in gold and tin mining, to move huge masses of barren land and to break down mountains. The techniques employed and their historical development were presented by Claude Domergue, Professor Emeritus at Toulouse University, and engineer Jean-Louis Bordes.
