Abstract
The famous formula " musée imaginaire " - first mentioned in a 1946 lecture, " L'homme et la culture artistique " - might lead one to believe that André Malraux had an equivalent in the field of books, an " bibliothèque imaginaire ", especially since the writer was often interested in the joint history of these two institutions. However, this is not the case : the formula is not to be found under the writer's pen. Jean-Louis Jeannelle's talk explored the reasons for this mysterious absence.
