Can a sentence be represented by a vector ? The problem of " compositionality " consists in finding a code that combines individual word representations while also managing to encode their composition, i.e. their syntactic and semantic organization. We will examine several proposed solutions, their limitations, and their correspondence with brain activity recorded by MRI or MEG imaging, or by intracranial electrodes.
