The aim of this lecture was to take up a complex and fascinating question, that of the history of the god spoken of in the Hebrew Bible, who became the god referred to, in different ways, by the three monotheistic religions. This question has been tackled using the tools of historical, philological and exegetical criticism. How, given our current state of knowledge, can we trace the history of this god from his origins to his "victory" over the other gods and goddesses, and the assertion that he is the only god? The first part of the lecture was devoted to the question of the origins of the god Yhwh up to his installation as national god in Israel and Judah.
