Abstract

This first lecture will present the historical background to the study of neural activity and experience. It will also present methods for measuring neuronal activity and their recent evolution, which have made it possible to highlight early patterns of activity as early as the prenatal phases. Finally, it will present the different phases of prenatal and perinatal development, as well as the so-called critical or sensitive periods, during which changes in activity have a major long-term effect.
