I am a retired professor at the University of Edinburgh, and previously worked at the University of Chicago. My research interests include evolutionary and population genetics, specifically the molecular evolution of sex chromosomes in plants and fish species (my current funding is for studies of the guppy XY pair). Questions include the role of sexually antagonistic selection, the evolutionary origins of suppressed recombination, and the rate at which genetic degeneration occurs in non-recombining genome regions.
