Gabriel Marais
Originally from Paris, Gabriel Marais graduated in Lyon and did a postdoc in Scotland. From 2004 to 2021, he was a CNRS scientist at Univ. Lyon (France), where he started the research group "sex and evolution”. He is now doing his research at CIBIO, BIOPOLIS / Univ. Porto in Portugal, where he is also associate director. The last 10 years, he has been working on the evolution of sex chromosomes combining different approaches (e.g. genomics, bioinformatics, molecular evolution). His group has put a lot of effort in developing non-standard bioinformatic and statistical methods to study sex chromosomes and has applied them to many organisms, mostly plants.
