Education and professional career

  • 1945 : Teacher at Lycée d'Aix
  • 1945-19746 : Teacher at Lycée de Digne
  • 1946-1948 : Head of the cultural section of the French Control Council Group
  • 1948-1952 : Researcher at CNRS (intern, then research associate)
  • 1952-1953 : Scientific contributor to the Thesaurus Linguae Graecae and lecturer at Hamburg University
  • 1953-1965 : Senior lecturer, professor without a chair and professor of Greek language and literature at the University of Poitiers
  • 1965-1972 : Professor of Greek philology at the Faculté des Lettres et Sciences humaines de Nanterre, now the Université de Paris X
  • 1972-1985 : Professor of Classical Greek Philology at the University of Paris Sorbonne (Paris IV)
  • 1985-1992 : Professor at the Collège de France, Chair of Tradition and Criticism of Greek Texts
  • 1965-1992 : Director of Studies in Greek Philology at the École Pratique des Hautes Études (IVe section)
