Abstract
Author of some 100 publications, Prof. Walter Fontana's research, mainly in the United States and Europe, shows that the theories underlying computer science and biology have much in common, and that the confrontation of points of view and approaches can improve and change our understanding of life. As a theorist and computer scientist, he works mainly on the problems posed by systems biology. He contributed to the development of kappa , a platform and programming language for simulating the functioning of living systems at the molecular and cellular levels, and a powerful tool for collaborative networked research in biology.
