We will then look at two more recent developments in research into the health effects of fine particles: on the one hand, the new metrics that can be used to quantify human exposure, and in particular oxidative potential, analysis of the chemical composition of particles, assessment of the concentration of ultrafine particles or the use of individual dosimeters; and on the other hand, the possible health effects beyond the cardiovascular and respiratory systems, particularly in relation to exposure of pregnant women, including suspected effects on fetal growth and neurodevelopment.
