Music, and a fortiori musical emotions, are rarely considered as biologically constrained experiences. On the contrary, research over the last decade has shown that musical emotions have a universal basis and mobilize a set of neural circuits recognized for their biological importance (like the attraction to food or sex). Here, we examine the extent to which musical emotions may derive from non-verbal vocal communication.
