Abstract

The configurations revealed by cartographic studies are complex in both syntactic organization and interface properties. How do children master this complexity ? In recent years, a simple model for the acquisition of syntactic structures has been proposed : this is the " tree growth " (Friedmann, Belletti, Rizzi 2021), a model according to which syntactic trees develop bottom-up in children, starting from lower structural layers, with higher areas being added progressively . This lecture will discuss how this model works : What are the main problems it raises ? What properties does it manage to explain, and what questions remain open ?
