Gilles Veinstein was born in Paris on July 18th, 1945 and died in Saint-Cloud on February 5th, 2013.

Education and professional career

  • 1966-1971: Student at the École normale supérieure de la rue d'Ulm
  • 1972-1976: Work manager at EPHE, VIth section, then at EHESS
  • 1977-1986: Senior Lecturer, then Associate Professor at EHESS
  • 1986-1999: Non-cumulating Director of Studies at EHESS
  • 1999-2013: Professor at the Collège de France, Chair of Turkish and Ottoman History
  • 1999-2013: Cumulative Director of Studies at EHESS
