Colloquium organized by Professor François Héran, on June 5 and 6 2023 in the Marguerite de Navarre amphitheatre at the Collège de France (Marcelin Berthelot site).
Travail en migration / Migrationat Work
The Covid-19 crisis has highlighted the centrality of work in international migration issues. In France, work is at the heart of the debates surrounding the new bill on immigration and integration. Within the academic world, however, social sciences specializing in work and migration studies have not always converged. Recently, however, there has been a new vitality in work on the subject. In fact, work is at the heart of major migratory movements and policies (agricultural workers, posted workers, the employment of asylum seekers, etc.), and of an international and gendered division of labor ( care work and personal services, etc.). Work is also at the heart of social justice issues in contemporary societies, in that it structures many inequalities.
By taking migration and work as its theme, the Convergences Migrations Institute's 2023 international conference aims to offer an overview of current research that raises the question of work in the field of migration studies. The aim is to rethink the terms of a debate that is at once historical, epistemological and political. We'll be asking not only what migration does to work, but also what changes in the labour market do to migration. By bringing together disciplines, approaches and researchers from different countries, this international conference will provide an opportunity to take stock of contemporary work on the subject, which offers stimulating perspectives from both an empirical and methodological point of view.
