Every year, the Collège de France awards scientific prizes to researchers chosen for the excellence of their achievements. A public awards ceremony was held in the Marguerite de Navarre amphitheatre on Tuesday, November 14 2023.
Award ceremony
- The Fondation Hugot du Collège de France 2023 prize was awarded to economist Olimpia Cutinelli-Rendina and paleoanthropologist Sélim Natahi.
- The Delheim 2023 Prize is designed to encourage young biology researchers to continue their work in the laboratories of the Collège de France, with the aim of responding to the major challenges facing humanity. The prize was awarded to cancer biologist Julien Ablain.
- The Lacassagne 2023 prize, which rewards the work and encourages the careers of young researchers in biology, was awarded in absentia to Florent Ginhoux, immunology biologist.
- Mathilde Montaubin, a law researcher, was awarded the Anna Caroppo - Fondation du Collège de France 2023 scholarship. This fellowship supports talented young female researchers, enabling them to pursue their research training for a year with the Collège de France teams in the humanities and social sciences.
- The Claude-Antoine Peccot 2023 prize was awarded to mathematician Piet Lammers. The prize is awarded every year to young mathematicians under the age of thirty who have distinguished themselves in the field of mathematics.
The Collège de France Prize
The Collège de France Prize for Young Researchers recognizes the excellence of a young researcher's career and the innovative nature of his or her contributions to public research. The theme of the 2023 prize was " Rencontres des civilisations ". It was awarded to Naveen Kanalu Ramamurthy, a historian specializing in the Mughal Empire, by Pr Dario Mantovani, president of the jury.
A round-table discussion
The evening continued with a round-table discussion moderated by RFI journalist Caroline Lachowsky on the theme " Young researchers : what is the point of research today ? ". The winners were able to express their vision of the links between scientific research and society.
Conclusion of the ceremony
The evening concluded with a speech by Sylvie Retailleau, Minister of Higher Education and Research.
