Since 2000, Collège de France has pursued an ambitious policy of renovating its research laboratories, providing physics, chemistry and biology researchers with over 25,000m2 of state-of-the-art laboratory space.
These new facilities are essential if we are to continue to position the research carried out at the Collège de France at the highest level in the face of increasing international competition, and are an additional source of attraction for the institution and its laboratories among young researchers, doctoral and post-doctoral students from all over the world.
The latest stage in this project is the renovation of almost 1,000m2 of biology laboratories and workspaces, enabling the teams of Prof. Hughes de Thé, holder of the Chair in Cellular and Molecular Oncology, to move onto the site. These teams will join those of Prof. Alain Prochiantz, Administrator and holder of the Morphogenetic Processes Chair, and the teams already based at the Collège de France. The complementary nature and geographical proximity of these teams opens up stimulating prospects for the development of innovative projects at the interface of disciplines.
Maintaining research at the highest level has an increasingly high material and human cost, and the Collège de France must diversify and amplify its sources of funding. The Fondation Bettencourt Schueller, which since 2008 has provided decisive support for the Collège de France's scientific policy and the dissemination of knowledge, has contributed 6 million euros to the renovation (including 2 million for the purchase of new-generation equipment).
