Readings of Han and Song commentaries on Zhouyi

from to

The seminar, pursued jointly with Mr. Stéphane Feuillas, lecturer at the University of Paris VII, was devoted to examining the notion of " modification " in the Classic of Change(Zhouyi 周易). Based on the hypothesis we formulated last year, according to which the choice of a hermeneutic procedure concerning this Classic or its rejection are indicative of a general conception of transformation and a global approach to becoming, we set out to study the technique of the " hexagrammatic modification "(guabian 卦變). Appearing during the Han dynasty, it consists in elaborating series of hexagrams derived from other figures considered cardinal. such pairings are intended firstly to trace the origin of any figure and its anchorage in a matrix ; they then make it possible to clarify the oracular sentences attached to hexagrams(guaci 卦辭) and individual lines (yaoci 爻辤), by calling up the symbols attached to these hidden signs and the trigrams that make them up.
