Abstract

The processing of information by brain circuits is the central question of neuroscience. The fate of visual signals at the level of the cerebral cortex is the prototype. After the deciphering of the primary visual cortex and the exploration of the extrastriate visual cortex, the third revolution in vision concerns the entire cerebral cortex. Anatomy tells us that we need to approach vision from behind, via the outputs to the motor and other brain systems, rather than via the retinal input. The integration of functional imaging from the primate model opens up a royal road, as it establishes the link between unitary explorations and human functional imaging.
