Abstract
Pragmatics of enunciation; contextualism; theory of direct reference; mental indexicality and subjectivity; mental files. François Recanati's name is closely associated with so many major concepts and themes in contemporary philosophy. Author of eleven books published by leading academic publishers, and over one hundred and fifty articles in scientific journals and collective works, he has helped consolidate a field of research that is now very active internationally, at the crossroads of Philosophy of Language and Mind, linguistics and cognitive science. His research has led us to reconsider the relationship between language and thought.
A member of the CNRS since 1979, director of studies at EHESS (where he joined in 1975), co-founder in 2000 and former director of the Institut Jean Nicod, a 100-strong research unit shared by the École normale supérieure and EHESS, François Recanati has produced a considerable body of work with worldwide repercussions, as evidenced by his invitations to lecture at the most prestigious universities and the numerous translations of his work. He is one of the best-known French philosophers in the English-speaking world.
