Research on the papyrological collections of the Musée du Louvre

Carl-Loris Raschel is a historian of Antiquity, specializing in Greek and Coptic papyrological documentation and Egyptian monasticism in Late Antiquity. He joins the Collège de France onOctober1 2024 as part of an annual postdoctoral contract co-financed with the Musée du Louvre, to work on the inventory and history of the constitution of the museum's papyrological collection. The research work, the presentation of which is available below, will be carried out under the joint responsibility of Prof. Jean-Luc Fournet, holder of the Written Culture in Late Antiquity and Byzantine Papyrologychair , and the scientific referents in the Louvre's Egyptian Antiquities and Byzantine and Oriental Christian Arts departments. This work also accompanies the creation, within the museum, of the Centre de papyrologie - départements des Antiquités égyptiennes, des Arts de Byzance et des Arts de l'Islam.
