The development of living organisms involves complex genetic and cellular mechanisms that lead to the realization of a plan inscribed in the DNA of the species. Evolution operates by modifying either the plan itself, or the effector processes that translate it into form. This symposium will examine the nature of these mechanisms, their plasticity at the origin of variation, and the origin of the internal and external constraints applied to them.
