Bernard Tardieu is Chairman of the "Energy and Climate Change" Commission of the Académie des Technologies. He is an international expert in hydroelectricity, dams, canals and civil engineering for nuclear power plants. Until February 2008, he was Chairman and CEO of Coyne et Bellier-Tractebel Engineering, a GDF-Suez company. He is now Honorary Chairman. Within this company, and then at its head, he devoted his professional life to developing major projects in the water and hydroelectric power sectors, in some fifty countries. He has promoted both theoretical (static and dynamic modeling, poroplasticity, geomaterials modeling) and practical research on the occasion of appraisals, worksites and dam testing. He has been Vice-Chairman of the International Commission on Large Dams, Chairman of the Comité Français des Barrages et Réservoirs, Vice-Chairman of the Comité d'Orientation de la Recherche en Génie Civil (1985-1995), and a member of the IRSTEA Board of Directors. He is a member of the Comité Technique Permanent des Barrages et Ouvrages Hydrauliques, a member of the Scientific Council of EDF and ENPC, and Chairman of the CST "ouvrages" du Canal Seine Nord Europe-VNF. He has published numerous scientific articles and participated in several thesis juries.
