Abstract
Throughout the ages, man has applied knowledge and know-how to mastering materials. We have progressed from the basic materials available in our environment to customized materials designed to meet multi-criteria specifications. Today, thanks in particular to numerical modeling at different scales, we can design high-performance materials, combining various classes of materials in controlled geometries and dimensions. These innovation strategies - architectural or bioinspired materials - have been integrated into a wide range of industrial sectors (automotive, aeronautics, construction, biomedical sciences, etc.).
