Abstract

In the 21st century, are we so often playing and listening to the works of the giants of the past century - Messiaen, Ligeti, Kurtag and the others ? Why does this repertoire remain so marginal ?
Pierre-Laurent Aimard considers the interpreter's contribution to contemporary creation. The performer also creates the works, playing them for the first time. And it's up to him to make them heard by both the public and his students. Reflecting on creation implies examining the role and responsibilities of the performer today.

" Is it appropriate to entrust a chair of Artistic creation to a performer ?
Doesn't this overestimate the role of a servant of composers and their works ? [...]
On the contrary, we believe it is to take advantage of his very singular position as interface between the secret universe of creation and social sharing. "
