Abstract
" Listen to the dead with your eyes ". This line from Quevedo comes to mind as I inaugurate a course devoted to the role of the written word in the cultures that have characterized European societies from the late Middle Ages to the present day. The task is urgent today, when the digital revolution is breaking the ancient link between texts and their materiality, forcing a radical revision of the gestures and notions we associate with the written word.
