Abstract

The history of architecture constantly combines two perspectives : the panoramic view of urban ensembles, revealing social or technical policies, and the close-up view of buildings and their interiors, reflecting the ideals and commitment of their authors and inhabitants. By placing theorists, philosophers and writers in dialogue with twentieth-century architects such as Mies van der Rohe, Wright and Le Corbusier , Jean-Louis Cohen suggests a renewed approach to architecture as questioning and practice, rooted in cultural history and the human condition.
