Abstract

Algorithmic language is expressively rich enough to cope with the high descriptive complexity of the living world. Cellular circuits, schools of fish, flocks of birds, the transmission of rumors, crowd movements and political polarization are all examples of social dynamics that lend themselves to modeling by natural algorithms. Algorithms are essential to science in the 21st century, and are one of the major challenges facing computer science today.
