Abstract

The first lesson presented the principle of realizing one- or two-qubit quantum gates on a system of ions with two electronic levels trapped in a harmonic potential. We noted the analogy of this system with that of cavity electrodynamics dealt with in previous lectures. This introduction is also an opportunity to recall a number of previously established results (pilot equation and Monte Carlo method for describing relaxation, description of qubits on the Bloch sphere, entanglement entropy, etc.).
