Summary

My idea of a theory in biology is far removed from the theoretical biology of putting observed or photographed phenomena into equations. I have a simpler, more concrete conception. Not this mathematical description of what is seen, but an evolutionary model, a tool cobbled together, perhaps with mathematics, but also with natural language, and which serves above all to understand what is not seen, to guess, beneath the visible, the invisible of the living, its underlying "logic".
