Abstract

On the eve of the bicentenary of Champollion's discovery in 2022, Nicolas Grimal reviews twenty years of teaching and research at the Collège de France, and discusses the young, complex science of Egyptology, combining archaeology, philology and history. While recalling the major themes to which his lectures were devoted (Egyptian geopolitics in the2nd millennium BC ..., the hypostyle hall of Soleb, the temples of the enclosure of Amon-Ra at Karnak and Egyptian literature) and seminars (the Annals of Thutmosis III and the philosophical texts known from the Prisse papyrus), he pays tribute to the work of an entire team, to the loyalty of his audience, and to an openness to broader horizons that seems to augur well for the future of his discipline.
