"Akkadian Works and Days", the third conference, considered industrial production in the Akkadian period: food; textiles, animal husbandry and wood, metal and stone working. We noted that there were significant changes in management and accounting, as well as in the techniques and scale of production. We have highlighted two significant factors: the sudden influx into Mesopotamia of materials, products and styles from conquered countries, especially Syria and Iran; and the growth of a wealthy elite interested in symbols of prosperity and authority, luxury goods and novelties.
