We present a number of remarks relating archaeological material from Sogdiana proper to texts from East Turkestan, with particular reference to Sogdian activities in and around Khotan. It is concluded that Sogdians had settled there as early as the time of the Old Letters (313 CE), and that the 19th-century Jewish merchants known from Judeo-Persian documents had a distinct Sogdian substratum.
