Noemi Zollo obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Biotechnologies (Università degli Studi del Piemonte Orientale) and an international Double Master Degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics (Università degli Studi di Padova & Université Paris Cité).
She started her PhD at CIRB in 2021, working on Ribonucleoprotein particles (RNPs) in mouse oocytes. RNPs are fundamental cellular condensates that store mRNAs, regulating their stability and timing of expression. They play a particularly important role in oocytes, as late oogenesis and early embryonic development are transcriptionally silent and rely almost entirely on post-transcriptional control. However, the cellular mechanisms underlying their assembly and patterning are not yet fully characterized in mammalian oocytes.
Her PhD Thesis project seeks to describe RNPs organization and dynamics during mouse oogenesis, elucidating their impact on the expression of mRNAs that coordinate oocyte growth and grant oocyte quality.
