Frith Edbrooke is a PhD student (2024-2027) investigating geographic patterns of antimicrobial resistance in Escherichia coli. They will be combining analysis of epidemiological and genomic data with theoretical modelling to better understand how and why drug resistant bacteria spread through host populations, remaining at intermediate frequencies, in France and beyond. This is a continuation of work started during their Master 2 internship in the lab, as part of the IMaLiS programme at ENS-PSL. In previous internships with Samuel Alizon (CIRB, work on HPV within-host evolution ongoing); Hélène Salmon (Institut Curie); and Alfried Vogler (Natural History Museum London) they have developed interest and expertise in quantitative methods applied to biological questions. They have a background in biology, with a first class honours degree from Imperial College London.
