Jean-Marie Tarascon is a specialist in solid state chemistry who spent the first fifteen years of his career in the United States. He was behind the creation of the ALISTORE-ERI European Network of Excellence in 2003, and in 2011 of the French Electrochemical Energy Storage Network (RS2E), which he still heads. His wide-ranging research interests include the design, via eco-efficient synthesis processes, of new electrode materials with enhanced capacity, as well as the study of new reaction mechanisms and the exploration of new battery technologies beyond Li-ion, including Na-ion, Zn-MnO2 and all-solid-state technologies. His current passion is the development of intelligent batteries through the injection of sensors. This aspect of his work will be the subject of his lecture for 2021, entitled " Diagnostic and self-repair techniques for more efficient batteries ".
