Former student at the École normale supérieure (1971-1975) and agrégé in philosophy (1974). He was a secondary school teacher (1979-1999). From 1999 to 2010, he was a lecturer at the Chair of Philosophy of Language and Knowledge (Pr Jacques Bouveresse). He now holds the same position in the Metaphysics and Philosophy of Knowledge department (Prof. Claudine Tiercelin).
Since 2000, he has been director of the "Banc d'essais" collection at Éditions Agone (Marseille), where he has published Jacques Bouveresse's Essais series. Since 2004, he has also been in charge of The Collège de France Publishing Department:
- publication of Leçons inaugurales (Fayard);
- the Collège de France Publishing Department, éditions Odile Jacob;
- electronic publication of Leçons inaugurales du Collège de France and the collection Conférences du Collège de France.
His work focuses on two main themes:
- the problem of the relationship between language and lived experience, based on Wittgenstein's philosophy of psychology from 1946-49;
- the problem of the relationship between political experience and literature, based on the work of George Orwell.
