François Bourguignon was Director of the Paris School of Economics from 2007 to 2013, as well as Director of Studies at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales. From 2003 to 2007, he was Chief Economist and Senior Vice-President of the World Bank in Washington.

Trained as a statistician, François Bourguignon obtained a PhD in economics from the University of Western Ontario, followed by a doctorate from the Université d'Orléans. His theoretical and empirical work focuses on income distribution and redistribution in developing and developed countries.

He is the author of several books and numerous articles in international economic journals. In the course of his career, he has received several scientific distinctions and taught at several foreign universities. He has extensive consultancy experience with several governments and international organizations.
