Franck Courchamp is Director of Research 1st Class at the CNRS, National Institute of Ecology and Environment. At Université Paris Saclay, he heads a research team focusing on biodiversity dynamics and the impact of human activities on ecosystems and species. He holds a PhD in Biometry from the University of Lyon 1, and then worked at the University of California San Diego in the USA, then at the University of Cambridge in England, before being ranked first in the CNRS researcher competition in 2000. He is Visiting Professor at the University of California Los Angeles in the USA in 2014-2015. Author of three books and 200 international publications, he is one of the world's most cited scientists in his field ("Highly Cited Researcher" in the international "Clarivate Analytics" ranking, which corresponds to the top 0.1  % of the world's most cited researchers in each discipline). He has authored reports for intergovernmental panels such as the Convention on Biological Diversity, the IPCC and the IPBES. Supervisor of over 100 students at various levels, he is also very active in communications (notably with books and documentaries). In 2011, he was awarded the CNRS Silver Medal, and in 2014 was appointed to the European Academy of Sciences. Since 2020, he has held the AXA Chair in Invasion Biology at the Université Paris Saclay. In 2021, he was named Chevalier de l'Ordre National du Mérite, and in 2023 the Grand Prix de la Société Française d'Écologie et Évolution.
