Dictionary of Classical Japanese Sources

The Dictionary of Sources of Classical Japan. Dictionary of Sources of Classical Japan has been designed to guide students, researchers and anyone interested in classical Japan, through the world of Japanese sources from the 8th to the 12th century, covering the Nara and Heian eras (710-1192) ; it also mentions later documents relating to the Japan of that time. The book was produced by a team of thirty-five researchers specializing in ancient Japan. Throughout the editorial process, the editors have endeavoured to achieve their main aim, that of making accessible an important corpus of documents whose consultation is indispensable for understanding one of the most crucial periods in Japanese history. This dictionary, comprising some 1,200 entries, brings together in a single volume sources that are generally scattered across different fields (art, history, medicine, music, literature, religion, etc.). For each entry, there is a description of the work's content, as well as bibliographical information on any editions or translations to which it may have given rise. The Dictionary of Classical Japanese Sources is destined to become an invaluable reference work for anyone interested in the fascinating world of ancient Japan.
