Dirk S. Schmeller does research in different areas, including different aspects of wildlife diseases, biodiversity monitoring on European and global scale and social aspects of conservation. The research of Dirk S. Schmeller fully subscribes to the One Health initiative of Future Earth to provide urgently needed real world solutions for policy and society. The research of D. S. Schmeller links basic research on global change impacts, community and ecosystem functioning to finding solutions to improve ecosystem health and reduce subsequent risks arising for human well-being. His AXA Chair on Functional Mountain Ecology provides the possibility to Healthy elink disease ecology and functional ecology.
