Two is the lowest spacetime dimension with lightcones, horizons, black holes and intrinsic curvature. Therefore, models of 2d gravity often serve as playgrounds to address difficult conceptual issues concerning black hole evaporation, quantum gravity and holography. In my talk, I review classical and holographic aspects of general 2d dilaton gravity. It is based on recent work with Ruzziconi and Zwikel, https://arxiv.org/abs/2109.03266.
