Abstract
Recent experiments and theory have shown that chromatin is organized as a polymer in a poor solvent in the nucleus, with a tendency to phase separate when the nucleus is hydrated. This downgrades the role of chromatin in nuclear volume regulation, which may be due instead to proteins whose active transport leads to their different concentrations in the cytoplasm and the nucleus.
