Abstract

Founded by Claude Bernard in the 19th century, experimental medicine has played a decisive role in medical research and, above all, in modern biology. Among other things, it highlighted the role of the immune system, i.e. the body's defenses against microbes.

Situated at the crossroads of genetics, immunology and pediatrics, Alain Fischer's work consists in identifying the genetic and molecular bases of rare diseases, hereditary immune deficiencies (HIDs ), causing infectious vulnerability, auto-inflammatory and auto-immune diseases, and sometimes cancer.
