This year, Dario Mantovani will dedicate his lecture to "Equity: Roman history of the desire for justice". The word "equity" is just one way of expressing the desire for justice. But how can we agree on its content, if this desire is born precisely out of a dispute? Taking the public on a journey through Roman history, iconography and trials, the lecture will explore the lived dimension of fairness; it will also provide an opportunity to grasp, from an internal perspective, the rich and rigorous legal and philosophical thought that has influenced the modern imagination. A final colloquium devoted to equity "outside the law" will broaden our view of a notion that is also at the heart of public discourse, and is one of the tools of several contemporary disciplines.
