This lecture covers six topics, five of which were also the subject of seminars given by experts in each of these fields. The aim was to situate and then address a number of current issues that are the subject of fundamental studies in immunology. My hope is that this lecture will serve as the basis for future lectures on the pathophysiology of immune system disorders: autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, on the one hand, and immunological therapeutics, on the other.
