Carole is an engineer; she got recruited by the INSERM after working for a private company. She worked at the Pasteur Institute to develop a papillomavirus vaccine in the laboratory of Gérard Orth. In 1994, she joined the laboratory of Pr. Charnay at the école normale supérieure (ENS) of Paris, studying the genetic control of the formation of the central and peripheral nervous system in vertebrates. In 2017, she joined the Manceau team to undertake a project aiming at building a lineage map of the avian embryonic skin and identifying conserved color domains in the plumage.
