Résumé
H. G. Wells wrote: "Statistical thinking will one day be as necessary for efficient citizenship as the ability to read and write!"
The main thread of this talk argues that statistical thinking is transforming programming language research. It is a call to embrace human aspects of programming. Moreover, a second thread is a call to empower people with statistical thinking by bringing probabilistic programming to the spreadsheet. General programming constructs like compound data, LAMBDA, and sheet-defined functions allow us to dramatically rethink what experiences are possible.
