The administrators, professors and community of the Collège de France are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Jean-Paul Laumond, world expert in robotics, Director of Research Emeritus at the CNRS, member of the Académie des Sciences and the Académie des Technologies, and holder of the 2011-2012 Technological Innovation Liliane Bettencourt Chair at the Collège de France.
They wish to pay tribute to one of the great pioneers of robotics in France, whose teaching has left its mark on the history of the institution, notably on the occasion of his opening lecture "Robotics: a recurrence of Hephaestus", delivered on January 19, 2012, and the series of lectures on robotics given by Jean-Paul Laumond at the Collège de France.
