Abstract

Quick to formulate aphorisms and theoretical principles, Le Corbusier was often the first to free himself from them. Such is the case with " Cinq points d'une architecture nouvelle ", which he enunciated in 1927, and whose expiration was extremely rapid. Indeed, the attention to vernacular forms discovered before 1914 became clearer during summers spent at Le Piquey, on the Arcachon basin, and in a way subverted the language barely formulated in the first Parisian villas of the 1920s. In order to avoid becoming a prisoner of the rigors of his own doctrine, Le Corbusier strove to introduce into his projects not only rough textures and raw materials - stone or wood - but also more organic figures derived from his observations.
