Abstract

EO. 1128 (early9th century) is one of the most illustrious paintings of Sukhāvatī from Dunhuang held by and displayed at the Musée Guimet. Like many Sukhāvatīpaintings in or from Dunhuang, this painting shows significant deviations from its source text, the Amitāyus Visualization Sūtra. Referring to my former articles on Dunhuang paintings of the same motif, I will attempt to clarify how these deviations were brought about.
